This pair of cottages were built for the estate by Henry Griffiths, builder and son-in-law of Thomas Wisdom, in 1845. Griffiths was described as a carpenter on the 1851 census so William Weller was probably the bricklayer who laid the distinctive courses of flints with red brick surrounds that typified the estates building style from this date to the end of the nineteenth century.

A Glynde estate account book shows that George Eades paid a ‘half year’s rent of half the new cottage at Glynde’ of £1 19s on 17 November 1846. Brian Taylor, former landlord of the Trevor Arms, lived at number 1 after his retirement and number 2 was occupied by Mrs Ness, widow of Alf Ness. After Brian Taylor’s death Mrs Ness moved to the upstairs flat at Pear Tree Cottage so the two Bank Cottages became empty and they were extensively re-furbished in 2007.
