Originally numbers 1 and 2 Dacre Cottages, the name taken from the Brand family title of Lord Dacre, a title taken by the eldest son of Lord Hampden who always inherited the Hertfordshire estates of the Brand family.
Built as a pair of farm labourer’s cottages to replace cottages that had stood on the Downs in Beddingham near Blackcap Farm but were destroyed by (allied) artillery practise in World War II.glynde.info/history by Andrew Lusted & Chris Whitmore is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
